In a shocking development in San Francisco, the Giants demoted rookie outfielder Jason Ellison to Triple A Fresno today to make room for Moises Alou's return from the disabled list.

Ellison has played a key role in the Giant outfield this season, hitting .277-4-24-13 in 332 at bats. Ellison started hot, cooled considerable in July, hitting .233 for the month, but rebounded in August, hitting .300 in limited play after the Randy Winn trade.

Ellison is expected to return to San Francisco when rosters expand in September.
