If the remarkable Roger Clemens (11-5, 1.53) has any competition for a record seventh Cy Young Award, that competition may just come from Florida's Dontrelle Willis. Willis won his 17th game tonight in the Fish's 5-2 win over Los Angeles. Willis is now 17-8 with a 2.67 ERA. Willis has up to seven starts remaining, and if he gets on another roll (Willis won his first seven starts of the year, posting a 1.08 ERA in the process), no amount of magic from the 43-year old Clemens can hold him back.
Incidentally, the record for the fewest wins for a Cy Young winner, starting pitcher, non strike-shortened season, among pitchers who spent the entire season in one league (so long, Rick Sutcliffe) is 17 - Pedro Martinez in 1997.
